Presidential flag

The President of Iceland uses a special flag, as decreed by a law passed by the Alþingi in 1944. The flag is based on the state flag but has an additional escutcheon in the middle, as shown in the picture. The escutcheon is the coat of arms of Iceland. |

Heraldic symbol of the President
According to a law passed by the Alþingi (No. 39/1944), the President of Iceland has a special heraldic symbol. It has the form of a shield with the forms and colors of the national flag of Iceland, with the escutcheon of Iceland added in the middle.

The use of the national symbols of Iceland, including the escutcheon and the presidential symbols, is restricted by law, and use of the presidential symbols is determined by the Office of the President of Iceland.
